Facing the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 that was forcing so many businesses to
close, Jordan Cross, a restaurant and retail business owner, set his sights on finding an innovative yet affordable solution to help stop the spread of the virus.
Knowing most viruses can live for several hours on a surface, Jordan felt it was his
duty as a responsible business owner to look after the well-being of his staff and customers by identifying high contact areas in his businesses and finding a solution to limit contact in those areas.
Jordan spent many late nights researching for the perfect hands-free door opener
but was underwhelmed with what he found. After purchasing several different hands-free door openers, Jordan found that existing products on the market were inefficient and difficult to use.
Understanding what he didn’t like with the inferior hands-free door openers,
Jordan began to think of concepts and ideas of how his ideal hands-free door opener would work and look. After a few trips to his local hardware store, his hands-free door opener was designed and tested.
With a product demo in hand, Jordan recruited the help of his wife and their six
kids to come up with a name for the product. While sitting in their family room one evening, the kids suggested the simplistic name of “U-Kick”. Soon after, Jordan’s 17-year-old son suggested they do something cool and unique with the name. This
is where “Kick” morphed into “KIK”. As for the fun variety of colors you can
choose from? Thank the kids!
The mission when creating U-Kik was to create an affordable and
durable solution to make it easier and safer to enter and exit a space
without hand contact. What Jordan didn’t anticipate was the cool experience and forever memory he was able to make with his family while completing his mission.
